MK1 and MK2 have another audio driver. so you cant to take it as is and add into MK3. to do that you need to musician (or AI is start making Sega's music for ym2612 and psg?) and make some covers for that OST. Deflemask or VGM Music Maker is fine. never work with Furnace, but probably it can be fine too. we do some convert for Hidden Portal music once... but it didnt come to finish
warning - non english:
I understood what you said... and I know or get that you would have to implement the music to MK3's music engine or remake/translate it in a style that the MK3's music engine understands, that changed between MK1+2 from Probe's method of doing things, to what Williams works with in MK3 & UMK3... I understand that.
But I was talking about MSU implementations. Like SNES MSU-1 CD audio quality... or basically the method that Doom 32x Resurrection/Fusion works with when it comes to combining the Cartridge slot (whether Megadrive/Genesis or 32x component) + Sega CD component for audio.
I believe they call it, MD+. I believe it's a very recent invention... that is very similar to SNES MSU-1 conversions.
There are flashcarts that can run these CD audio quality + game rom in conjunction like the Mega SD and some of the higher-end Everdrive Pro flashcarts... just like you can run SNES MSU-1 Rom conversions on some of the higher-end more expensive Flashcarts... and there repros/reproductions that implement and flash the right hardware to run CD audio + FMVs for these SNES MSU-1 conversions (FX3 chip?), don't know if it's been done with the Megadrive/Genesis... outside of Doom 32x Fusion that have both the 32x cartridge + Sega CD to run both at the same time. The Sega CD handling the new CD Audio quality in combination with the 32x Reproduction Cartridge.
If you're curious as to what I mean and I'm saying... here's an internet archive link with some MD+ conversions (Similar to SNES MSU-1 conversions) that you can try, to easily understand what I'm saying... due to the language barrier.

This is probably an easier method to get any music in MK games and beyond, without worrying about the music engine built-in into the game. There are MK1 & MK2 Arcade OST conversions for the Genesis/Megadrive games, and for MK2 32x as well.
I would love to have UMKT to have a MD+ conversion with MK1 & MK2 music of both the Arcade version & Genesis/Megadrive version (Probe) music for the MK1 & MK2 stages already in the game, either or... but would prefer the Genesis/Megadrive OST personally... I think it's more memorable to me and cooler... Probe did a fantastic job with it.
...and well! Yeah! UMK3 Arcade OST for the MK3 & UMK3 stages.

Hope that was easier to understand, despite the language barrier. I unfortunately don't speak Russian... have to use a translator for most of the thread. Only speak English and Spanish. lol!

EDIT 2: More resources/sources on MD+. Here's some of the work of Conn from Zeldix.net of his MD+ conversions with CD Audio quality (as well as SNES MSU-1 conversions)... pretty awesome stuff. Has already done MK1 & MK2 conversions. Here's the link if curious:
