higan v110
A multiplatform emulator with a very confusing history. Originally called bsnes, it was renamed higan and became multiplatform, as higan is not a game-friendly emulator, Near first spun off the bsnes core project into a separate emulator with a more user-friendly interface and a much faster multi-threaded PPU renderer. Then the byuu project was spun off to build on the success of bsnes and offer an easy to use emulator for all emulator kernels, but after Near left the project, the community continues to develop a new project ares - which combines higan, byuu and bsnes. higan has a rather unusual interface and all that would be fine, but the requirement to import ROMs (think making copies) of any ROMs you intend to run in it is extremely inconvenient. So we advise you to look in the direction of ares.
